Lately I've been getting a lot of questions on how to make Kemper profiles (after sharing a couple of free packs on the forum and FB groups). I've been hearing that other video tutorials on how to do this are too long and complicated. So I wanted to simplify the process, because it really isn't a difficult thing to do. And we don't need half hour long videos explaining the process. You have a guitar sound you want to profile - RIGHT NOW. And this is how you do it. TLDR; I Kemper profiled my Friedman JJ Jr amplifier with a Mesa 2x12 cabinet, using a Shure SM57 in the off-axis position. I got a Kemper Profiler as soon as it came to the market 12 years ago and this is now my 3rd Kemper profiler. A few weeks ago I had a couple of gigs that came in for a silent stage and I really want to use my Matchless Independence 35 but as it is a silent stage this won't be possible, hence the Kemper. In this video, I explore the features of the Kemper profiler that were missing in previous updates before I sold my last one. Here is what Kemper says about the Kemper Profiler. Did I make the right decision to go for a Kemper? About six months ago I decided to sell a lot of my analog stuff and bought myself the Kemper Stage Profiler and the Kemper Power Kabinet. I also ended up buying a couple of the Mission Engineering EP1-KP expression pedals which I then assign as volume/wah/morph pedals. In this video I talk about my experience using the Kemper in the studio and using the Kemper live on stage. I also show you some of my favourite Kemper profiles but I have mainly been using Michael Britt profiles so far. I also share some footage from a live show and from the studio and show you a bit about morphing. I've been using Liquid profiles for a few weeks now and I have to say it has changed the way I use the Kemper. Less and less I am reaching for the deep editing parameters like the Definition and Clarity, not because they don't work, but because the new Liquid Profiles with there accurate tone stack and gain controls now perfectly replicate my analog set-up. I find my self using my Kemper in the same way I use the analog rigs in my studio. I pick an amp and mic (profile), then start playing with the Amps tone stack, upping the treble and presence on a plexi for example does a certain thing....but with that accuracy of liquid profile comes limitation....Marshall and Fender ToneStacks are just no very powerful with has me reaching for the Studio EQ even more. At the end of the day, I'm finding my workflow is now identical on the Kemper and playing analog amps in the studio...for better or worse, but I do still have the deep editing parameters...so I guess time will tell what I favor more in the future.
