There are words in English that work both as a noun and verb - so by learning one work your learning two -   work, drive, try, kiss, drink, dream, milk (доить), hope, love 2. Words that end with -tion would be almost the same in your own language, super easy to learn - ambition (ambicion, Ambition, ambitzione), motivation (motivacion, Motivation, motivazione). Dissertation, profession, portion, intonation, convention, sanction, concentration, delegation, illustration 3. Look for images for particular words - you will be surprised you’ve already used them a lot in your life. Sometimes words just remind you of something - a song, a band. Spear which is a weapon - I think of Britney Spears. Beetle = a bug, Volkswagen New Beetle car, which looks like a bug, gosling - is a baby goose - and you know who I am thinking about - Ryan Gosling. 4. Some words have several meanings - try to learn at least a couple of meanings to diversify your vocabulary - fire = flame, to let someone go (employee), date = going out with a loved one, date as a fruit, date as a day in a calendarmiss = to skip something, to long to see someone, miss like a girl 5. There are a lot of words that are almost identical in a lot of languages - aquarium, antidepressant, avocado, argument, sensor, caramel, control, cocktail, scandal, organism 6. When you speak it’s very important to remember the words, which I call a safety net - these should be learnt by heart right now. Words include - I, you, she, he, eye, female, etc. - they are all mentioned in my video - 100 Most Common English Words 7. Learn expressions - are you nuts? 🥜 save face, I am all ears, to feel blue- every day words form combinations that have a completely different meaning 8. Talk to yourself when you learn a new word or expression using it. For example, if you liked the video you can comment below “Marina, I was all ears!” Which means that you listened to the video really carefully and wrote things down. 9. Be aware of false friends. Some words in English might sound like a word a your language, but mean a completely different thing. One of the common words is Actual - in English in means current, related to present time. In Spanish Actual is real.Eventuell = perhaps, eventually = in the end ⭐ INSTAGRAM - linguamarina ⭐ LEARN LANGUAGES ABROAD - 🤍 ⭐ ENROLL IN MY YOUTUBE COURSE - 🤍 ⭐ DOWNLOAD MY ENGLISH WORKBOOK - 🤍 📷 FILMING EQUIPMENT - Gear for making my 'talking head' videos - 🤍 - Gear for vlogging - 🤍 🎈PROMOS $20 TO SPEND ON AIRBNB - 🤍 $20 TO SPEND ON UBER - 🤍 I use affiliate links whenever possible (if you purchase items listed above using my affiliate links, I will get a bonus)

Improve your Vocabulary: Stop saying VERY!

22.05.2018

Using the same word again and again is boring, which is why native English speakers use a wide variety of vocabulary to express their thoughts and feelings. In this vocabulary lesson, I will teach you how to express yourself more effectively by replacing the word "very" with more precise and interesting adjectives. For example, you can replace "very cold" with "freezing". This illustrates your point more precisely. You will sound more natural and intelligent. Using these adjectives on the speaking section of IELTS and TOEFL exams will impress your examiner and improve your score. Watch the video to discover many more examples of this kind of vocabulary substitution. Variety is the spice of life! Next, watch my lesson on why you should stop saying OKAY: 🤍 TRANSCRIPT "Getting from here to there, it's been a long while." Oh, hi. My time is finally here. James from engVid. I can't believe this, this is like the Mirror Universe. If you watch Star Trek, you'll understand; if not, go watch Mirror Universe with Star Trek. I have two, look at them, I have two Mr. Es. In the first one Mr. E is hot, and the first one Mr. E is cold. Let's go to the board. E, what's up? "It's very hot. 35 degrees centigrade." You're right. I see you're wearing your Bermuda shorts. And the second E is saying he's very cold: "It's minus 30 degrees centigrade." Ow, this isn't good. I feel for you. But don't you think there are better ways to say it's very hot or it's very cold? I think so, and in today's lesson I'm going to teach some of you... Not some of you. I'm going to teach all of you how to get rid of the word "very" to describe everything, and use other words which give more information, which will make you sound more like a native speaker and make your writing phenomenal. Oh, "phenomenal"? That's a word for "very good". Are you ready? Let's go to the board. So, today's lesson is on "very". "Very" is a very good word, that's why we use it, but when you're writing, to hear somebody say: "Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very" is what we call monotonous, it means "mono" as one, "tonous", one tone, one sound - very boring. So let's change that from you being... You know, using "very" because I teach and I notice a lot of students saying things, like: "Teacher, today it's very cold outside." I'm like: -"Yeah, it is." -"And I'm very tired and very hungry." I'm like: "Okay, okay." It's like being punched in the face again and again, and I just want to say: "Stop with the 'very'. Use a different word." But it's not fair because "very" is a very good word-there, I did it again-we just need to find other words to make your language sound richer to improve it so you sound more like a native English speaker, and to make it more interesting for you because it will express more of who you are and your ideas in a better way. It makes you unique. You ready? Let's go to the board. You'll notice I put "very" in red because this is something we don't want to do, we don't want to keep saying: "very". We want to change that up. And I'm going to give you a list of words that people or students usually say when they say "very" that I've heard many, many times. And maybe you've done this. And today I'm going to give you singular words to use instead. I'll explain them, just in case they're difficult. Let's start with the first one. People say: "Very rude", instead of saying that, you can say: "vulgar". "Vulgar" means very rude, and if somebody says to me: "Your language is vulgar", I'll probably stop talking because it means it's not right, it's inappropriate, it's very bad. Vulgar. "I don't like your vulgar tone", your rude tone. It's strong. "Very short", another word we say is "brief", which means small. We had a very brief... We had a very brief conversation, a very short conversation. Cool? "Boring". When you say: "Class was very boring today", you can say: "dull". "Dull" means very boring. It also means... See? Here's a bonus when you use these words, stupid. If you say someone is dull, you can say they're very boring, or dull meaning they're stupid. Don't use it like that too often; people don't like being called stupid. And if you say: "He's rather dull, isn't he?" I have to listen for context to mean stupid or boring. Next one, everybody's favourite: "Very good". "Teacher, the food is very good. The lesson is very good. I like this, it's very good." Why don't we change that to the word "superb"? Look carefully at the word "superb", you have the word "super" written inside it. "Super" means what? Above average, excellent, or superb, very good. "The food was superb." People don't usually use this word, so if you tell me when I cook for you that it's superb, I'm telling you right now I will take that as such an amazing compliment. Gentlemen, if you tell a woman she looks superb, she'll be like: "Thank you. Really?" Because no one says it. All right? […]

Don’t search for difficult vocabulary words. Do automatic vocabulary building by using my technique

00:16:24
08.04.2023

Link for Lingoda language school: 🤍 (Code: ALEENA30) Don’t search for vocabulary words, do automatic vocabulary building. A lot of people search google for vocabulary words by searching “list of difficult words” or “list of english vocabulary words”, but that’s a wrong way of improving your vocabulary. I say don’t directly learn vocabulary. Learn it indirectly: Do something that of which learning vocabulary is a side effect. Instead of focusing directly on the words and googling them and cramming them, do something that naturally pushes vocabulary words into your life. So that they come with context and meaning. So we are just focusing on exposing our mind to English content, rest happens automatically. It results in the best kind of vocabulary learning. You also feel a relief that “I don't have to do anything as such, it will be done on its own”. So by exposing your mind to English content like reading books/newspapers/articles, watching English shows, or consuming any English content, you will understand words' meaning in depth. This learning will be natural and organic. On the other hand, if you search for list of difficult words and try to cram them forcefully you will only get their surface level meaning. This learning would be unnatural and inorganic. Automatic spaced repetition: They say that spaced repetition is essential to remembering new words. I say, let spaced repetition be automatic as well. If you consistently consume good content, words are bound to repeat themselves. They will reinforce their presence in your mind naturally then. Automatic usage: They also say that one should start using words so as to remember them. I say, even let that be automatic. Over time words will get solidify in your mind and your mind will automatically start using them. If like reading books, Kindle is an amazing way to increase your vocabulary because long pressing any word pops up its dictionary meaning. Or if you prefer reading physical books instead, keep a dictionary handy and use it when you come across any word you don't already know.

#englishfluencyjourney#howtolearnvocabularyfast#increasevocabulary#improvevocabulary Contact Anna on collaboration : englishfluencyjourney🤍gmail.com Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will – because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here – on my channel. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ Here you can ask me questions which I will then answer on my Instagram stories: 🤍 ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ INSTAGRAM page - 🤍 If you enjoy my content, and would like to show your appreciation and support my work, you can buy me a coffee :): 🤍 How can we do that? 1. Rehearse. Spaced repetition method. Repeat all that you’ve learned frequently. And I know what you’re probably thinking right now. “What is up with you and with that repetition repetition, repetition?” But I promise you guys, it’s not me. It’s just the way things are. It’s science basically. All new data is stored in a short-term memory and if you don’t repeat it or use it you forget it very fast. There’s a learning technique, that is called spaced repletion. I use it. It works wonders. And I’d say that this is the most beneficial thing that I’ve started doing. Because it trains your brain, it increases it’s capacity. You can read about this technique online in details. But the point is You have some vocabulary you want to learn or even grammar. You have to read it. Then try to recall it. Repeat it right after. Repeat it a couple of hours later. Then repeat it 24 hour later after initial contact with the information. Then 72 hour later. A week later. And 3 weeks later. And let’s say if 2 months later. And you can try recall this data in between. This way your brain understands that it matters and that it’s worth remembering and storing. And this the way to put information into your long-term memory. 2. Reading. Read a lot and out loud. Not only does it help you really to lean a new vocabulary, but also you constantly come across different words - including the ones you’re trying to memorize. Moreover, when you see them in context it’s much easier to make sense of them and to understand how to use them appropriately. And when you read out loud you automatically work on your pronunciation. And I want include Listening into this point as well. When you listen a lot to someone speaking your target language. English in our case. It’s almost the same as with reading. You get to hear all these new words, how there’re used in conversations, how they’re pronounced. But you don’t produce them by yourself. So, I’d say that it’s a little easier. In both of these cases you’re just going to have to make a little effort by looking up words that you come across and that are new for you. 3. Storytelling. Output/Using. You really need to use these words. Of course, try to use them when you speak with someone. And don’t be afraid to say that you forgot a word or to take a couple of seconds to try to remember that word or even to look it up. I usually say “Ok, I want to use a word here, give me a second it’s on the tip of my tongue” and either, I manage to remember it or I explain things differently or I say “Ok, nevermind. I can’t remember. Let’s move on”. In addition, come up with stories using these words. And either right them down or just talk to yourself. Honestly it works. And I think you’ll be amazed by how good it works after you try it for some time. It almost has the same effect as reading, but it also pushes you to think and to create, therefore helping you consolidate your recently gained knowledge even better. 4. Learn opposites / antonyms. Antonyms are words that are opposite in meaning to other words. And it’s actually pretty easy. Your brain grasps these opposites a lot easier than simply absolutely random, not connected words. You can even learn these in addition to words that you’re already learning. These techniques are not super fast, but they’ll give you long-lasting results. And that is not to say that learning new words is going to take you months. Not at all. Of course it depends on how determined you are, but actually takes less and less time if you learn regularly.
